Lagos state police have apprehended a mother identified as Rukayat for allegedly attempting to poison her epileptic child.
According to police sources, Rukayat brought her one-year-seven-month-old child, Wuraola, to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, complaining that the child wasn’t feeling well. During the course of treatment, Rukayat admitted to the doctor that on March 3, she administered insecticide to her child with the hope that she would die immediately. Rukayat explained that she had exhausted all other means to alleviate her child’s epileptic condition but had been unsuccessful, leading her to resort to poisoning.
Medical staff treated the child, and Rukayat was promptly handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
