Video footage captured a chaotic scene as members of the Maldives parliament engaged in a physical brawl near the Speaker’s chair.
The session descended into chaos when the Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) decided to withhold parliamentary approval for some members of President Mohamed Muizzu’s cabinet.
Pro-government MPs initiated a protest, disrupting proceedings with toy horns and leading to a physical fight. The incident resulted in injuries, with the MDP defending their actions as self-defense.
Microphones were reportedly removed to prevent their use as weapons during the brawl. The ruling coalition later staged a protest outside the parliament, demanding ministerial approval and filing a no-confidence motion against the speaker and deputy speaker.
