An Anambra lawyer, Adachukwu Okafor, accused of mistreating her 11-year-old maid, has turned herself in to the police and is scheduled to appear in court.Earlier, the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, had offered a N2 million reward for her capture.
Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, the media aide to the State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo, confirmed the surrender in a statement on Friday, February 16, 2024. Ikeanyionwu stated that the suspect presented herself to the Anambra Police Command in Awka.
Reportedly, Mrs. Okafor used knives and other sharp objects to harm the minor, Happiness Nwafor.Commenting on the development, Obinabo disclosed that Adachukwu will face charges at the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate Court in Awka next week.Meanwhile, the victim is expected to be discharged from the hospital.
