D’Tigress of Nigeria on Sunday, August 4, defeated Canada 79-70 in its final group game at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France, to qualify for the quarter-final of the women’s basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The victory earned D’Tigress their first-ever appearance in the quarter-final of the Olympics basketball competition.
Nigeria sailed through the group stage with five classification points and sit top of the pack, with France still to play Australia later in the day.
Nigeria bounced back from losing to the French in their second game after winning Australia in the first game.
The first quarter finished 18-18 then the Canadians edged Nigeria in the second quarter, and the game finished 41-37 by halftime.
In the third quarter, the Canadians could only manage five points as Nigeria overwhelmed them.
In the final quarter, Nigeria beat Canada with a historic 9-point victory ending the match 79-70.
