Engr. Umar Abdullahi Umar, the son of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state and the current National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been appointed as the Executive Director of Technical Services at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
President Bola Tinubu appointed Umar to the new management team of REA following the indefinite suspension imposed on the agency’s previous leadership team led by Ahmad Salihijo.
Salihijo, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, was suspended along with three directors who served under him. These directors include Olaniyi Alaba Netufo, Executive Director of Corporate Services; Barka Sajou, Executive Director of Technical Services; and Sa’adatu Balgore, Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Fund (REF).
Although Umar secured the APC ticket for the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa /Rimin Gado constituency, he lost the election to Hon Tijjani Jobe of the New Nigerian Peoples Party. Jobe, who previously worked at the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), emerged victorious. Umar has also been actively involved in the Tinubu/Shettima campaign, particularly within the youth wing.
