Bandits reportedly set fire to over 30 houses and numerous cattle during an assault on Allawa community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
Allawa, situated in the Lakpma axis of Shiroro LGA, is recognized as a significant agrarian settlement with a population exceeding 2,000 residents.
Confirming the incident to Daily Trust, Yusuf Musa, Chairman of Allawa Youth Connect, stated that the assailants struck the community around 8 pm on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
Musa indicated that the community was still assessing the number of individuals abducted during the attack.
He disclosed that approximately 100 cattle, 35 motorcycles, and 150 bags of assorted grains, along with 30 residences, were destroyed in the assault.
Residents expressed concern about encountering terrorists within a 1km radius from the community, noting that the assailants maintain permanent camps in Allawa Forest.
According to reports, bandits previously raided the community on Friday morning, resulting in the death of a vigilante member and the abduction of 12 individuals.
Following the Friday attack, residents stated that bandits made a subsequent attempt around 9 pm but were repelled by military personnel stationed in the area.
The recent attack on Sunday night heightened tensions, prompting many residents to flee to Pandogari, Kuta, and Gwada for safety.
