Zurmi town, the capital of Zurmi Local Government Area in Zamfara state, was assaulted by armed bandits who set fire to four military and police operational vehicles. The gunmen were purportedly headed by a reputed kingpin named Gwaska Dankarami.
In a phone interview on Thursday, Malam Musa Aliyu Zurmi, a local, verified the occurrence to reporters. He stated that hundreds of bandits with sophisticated weaponry broke into the town on Tuesday, December 12, at 4 p.m.
“They attacked the military base and police divisional headquarters and two operational vehicles of the military and two belonging to police were burnt to ashes during the invasion,” he said.
Malam Zurmi further stated that the bandits exchanged fire with security operatives for over two hours. Four operational vehicles belonging to the military and police were burnt during the encounter.
“As I am speaking to you now, many people in Zurmi town have fled to Dauran and Kaura Namoda to save their lives,” he said.
