A 38-year-old single mother who left her marriage due to her husband’s demands has expressed her outrage and accused feminism of being the reason she is childless and unmarried.
In a piece for Business Insider, Melissa Persling wrote, “I’m 38 years old, single, and I’ve just decided I want a child.” I’m afraid I lost out on this chance.
She also granted an interview to Fox News Digital where she broke down crying, describing how she feared she would end up alone and childless.
The woman claimed to have been “betrayed by feminism” as she neared her 39th birthday and made the decision that she wanted to settle down, start a family, and find a husband.
Persling disclosed in her Business Insider piece that she moved to a remote Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, hamlet after marrying a conventional man at the age of 22.
“He desired a straightforward existence with his kids and homemade foods. I had a strong feeling at the time that I didn’t want kids and that I wouldn’t become a typical housewife. I was certain that I wanted to pursue a career and that I would never be able to change my mind. And I suppose I was mistaken,” she said to Fox News.
Persling said she and her ex thought that love could conquer everything, but after 10 years, it was clear their differences in life goals were irreconcilable. She became resentful when he would ask for dinner or for his laundry to be done.
